Keanu Asing

keanu1.jpgBy Chelsea Johns

What bigger honor could a 14-year-old aspiring pro surfer receive than to be invited to star in a surf flick juxtaposing previous world champs with their Generation Y counterparts? Campbell High freshman Keanu Asing recently returned from a surf trip to Indonesia where he was compared to Hawaiian greats like Andy Irons, Dane Kealoha and Sunny Garcia for the upcoming Chris Malloy film, One Track Mind. It’s no surprise that Asing was chosen for this adventure, as the teen’s hard work in the lineup has really paid off. The natural-foot has been a permanent fixture in almost every amateur final heat this year. From HASA States to the Rip Curl Grom Search to NSSA Nationals, you’ll find Keanu humbly grinning from the winner’s podium.

If the predictions are true, it’s only a matter of time before Asing’s powerful style and determined character will thrust him into the big leagues.
