Duke’s Oceanfest is on!

Duke’s OceanFest

Waikiki Beach, Oahu Hawaii
17 – 25 August 2013

Action Packed Warriors, Keike & Soccer at The 12th Annual Duke’s Oceanfest

It was a great day to celebrate The “Duke” in Waikiki. Surf was up for the over 160 Keike who surfed where Duke Kahanamoku once surfed, at Queens Surf Break. A couple outstanding surfers were Rion Son and Shion Drawford who both made the final in long and short board. Angelina Yossa from the North Shore also made two finals along with Tiki Willis, Kaniela Stewert and Tosh Kekahuna.

Down the beach near the Outrigger Hotel where Duke once lived was the site of the Wounded Warrior Canoe Races. About 40 teams competed in the calm waters with very fast canoes. In the Wounded Warrior division it was team “ST” taking the title. On the team were David Matautia, Frank Lessary, William Cook and Manny Reil.

Coming up tomorrow is the HIC Pro. The 2013 HIC Pro Junior is a $5,800 ASP Junior Men’s and Women’s Pro event at Queen’s Surf in Waikiki. “HIC is proud to be a part of the Outrigger Duke’s OceanFest, and we’re committed to sharing the sport of surfing in the spirit of Duke Kahanamoku.” said HIC Founder & President, Stephen Tsukayama. “The event provides Hawaii’s young pros the opportunity to gain points towards the ASP Junior Pro Tour and chart a path towards a professional career in surfing. Good luck and enjoy the ride!”.

The Duke’s OceanFest is held each summer in Waikiki in honor of Hawaiian Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, who is remembered as the greatest waterman who ever lived, and Hawaii’s ambassador of Aloha. The 9-day event features a variety of ocean sports that were close to Duke Kahanamoku’s heart, such as longboard surfing, paddleboard racing, swimming, tandem-surfing, surf polo, beach volleyball, and more.

Don’t miss this special opportunity to commemorate both the history and future of surfing at the Duke’s OceanFest and the 2013 HIC Pro Junior!
