Local Motion Surf into Summer Presented by VISSLA

This past Memorial Day weekend, Magic Island was abuzz with colorful popup tents, VISSLA flags, families, friends and surfers who gathered for the annual Local Motion Surf into Summer Contest Presented by VISSLA at Ala Moana Bowls. The biggest amateur surfing event in Hawaii, the Local Motion Surf into Summer marks the beginning of the sunny summer season of waves on the south shore. Not typical weather for Memorial Day weekend, Oahu was hit with a storm and power outages, but luckily Magic Island evaded the thunder, lightning and rain.

Ala Moana remained mostly sunny throughout the 3-day event, and Bowls provided 2-4 foot sets for the competitors. This year saw two new division additions, the Vissla Creators and Innovators Division and the Stabl Thrash for Cash Pro Division. Prizes included cold hard cash and skateboards for top place winners, and goodie bags consisted of G-Shock watches, DaKine deckpads, Vertra sunscreen, Local Motion apparel and more. Freesurf’s own Chris Latronic placed 2nd in the Masters division, while Moniz brothers Seth and Isaiah came head to head in the Pro division finals and earned 1st and 2nd place respectively.
