Wahine Issue Out Now

Surfer: Kelis Kaleopa’a
Photographer: Will Walling

“I love shooting at Queens, especially in the late afternoon and evening when the sun gets low and the colors get soft. Most photographers will shoot from the Ewa side of the wave in the afternoon to have the sun to their back and the ability to capture Le’ahi in the background. I actually prefer shooting right into the sun to silhouette my subject.

This shot was taken just minutes before sunset. The sun was barely peaking over the horizon, but that’s when the sky melts and the colors explode. Add in Kelis hanging ten, and this is what you get.” – Will Walling ( @will_is_dakine )
