With the completion of three beach cleanups in Southern California this past weekend, Ocean Minded is pleased to announce it has now helped remove and properly dispose of over 75,000 pounds of trash from beaches, trails, lake shores, rivers and parks since 2009.
From the brand’s inception in 1996, Ocean Minded has been consistently hosting or participating in community cleanups around the world and educating their customers on the importance of leaving their chosen playgrounds in better condition than when they were found.
“We are a footwear company, first and foremost, but all of us here are very proud to have the environmental cleanup as one of the cornerstones of our brand,” stated Ocean Minded’s Marketing Director, Bob Tanner. “While reaching the 75,000 pound milestone is something that has all of us smiling, we are very much aware that our efforts need to continue and we look forward to working toward 100,000 pounds of trash picked up”, concluded Tanner.
In 2009, the brand began to officially track key figures from these cleanups and today hosts a ‘Trash Ticker’ on the homepage of www.oceanminded.com. The ticker provides visitors with up to date 2014 information on how many cleanups Ocean Minded has been a part of, how many volunteers have participated, and how much trash has been picked up.
In addition to the volume of trash picked up since 2009, the brand has counted:
Many of the cleanups held throughout the year are done in partnership with the Surfrider Foundation, whom Ocean Minded proudly supports. “These numbers show that by working together, we can make an even bigger difference for our oceans, waves and beaches,” says Katie Ferguson, the Surfrider Foundation’s Communications Manager. The Surfrider Foundation (www.surfrider.org) is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches.
