The stakes at Pipeline will be higher than at any other stop on tour. The event now carries 15,000 points, one and a half times the points awarded at a standard Championship Tour event, making it by far the most consequential contest of the year. Surfers who finish in the top eight of the men’s and women’s rankings heading into the finale will also receive seeding advantages, giving the regular season added weight before the tour even arrives in Hawaii.
