Filipe Toledo just landed his second big win of the 2018 WSL Championship Tour at Jeffreys Bay. The Brazilian is now first overall with a commanding points lead over No. 2 Julian Wilson and No. 3 Gabriel Medina, who Filipe knocked out in a high-scoring quarterfinals round.
In the finals, Filipe edged out Aussie Wade Carmichael in a close heat to become the back-to-back champ of Corona Open J-Bay. Much like 2017, Filipe excelled on the righthand pointbreak using smart wave selection, high speeds down the line and pulling into some barrels on the inside to consistently lock in high scores.
Minus a short shark sighting delay, which is no surprise considering J-Bay is known for its Great Whites, this year’s event went off without a hitch. Next up, the women will take over the break for the first time since 2000 to round out their stop No. 6.
Congratulation again to Filipe. Rocking the Jeep Leader Jersey!
