Aloha Kākou,
It’s that time again to start gathering kokua, support and donations for the 5th Annual Waiuli Ocean Fest being held on December 12, 2015 at Richardson’s Ocean Park in Keaukaha. The Waiuli Ohana along with Kama’aha Education Initiative are asking for your support for this drug and alcohol free event. This annual event is open to the public to promote ocean awareness, environmental stewardship, healthy living, community building, and economic sustainability.
The day’s events will consist of keiki, teen and exhibition surf competitions, keiki bamboo pole fishing tournament, and interactive marine and science games and activities. All events and activities are free. Also, our Keaukaha schools, local musicians, and community leaders are all helping to contribute and participate in this event.
We are asking for your support so that we might be able to provide event t-shirts and prizes for the competitions and fishing tournament. Our goal is to provide prizes for all keiki who enter any competition to encourage participation and good sportsmanship. We are also asking for kokua in hosting STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activity booths.
Your donation would help to offset the cost of gift prizes for the competitors. In the past, many of you have supported Waiuli Ocean Fest towards that end and your generosity has always made our event a success.
The ocean fest usually draws approximately 500 people for a fun filled day of surfing, fishing, music, games, and community discourse.
Mahalo for your time on this matter. If you can help in any way, please contact Alana Ortiz via email at alortiz@hawaii.edu. Your kokua will be greatly appreciated.
Mahalo nui,
Alana Ortiz & The Waiuli Ohana
