About Hawai’i Adaptive Surfing Championships
AccesSurf is the pioneer for adaptive water sports programs and competitive adaptive surfing. In 2007, AccesSurf in partnership with Duke’s OceanFest hosted the first international Adaptive Surf Competition. Executive director Cara Short worked closely with the International Surfing Association (ISA) as a member of an advisory committee in 2015 as they launched their first adaptive surfing championships which is now the platform for the movement for surfing to be included in the Paralympics (Parasurfing). In 2019, AccesSurf branched out to host their own stand-alone competition outside of Duke’s OceanFest. The Competition started with one expression session heat of mixed style of surfing and has grown into 17 world tour divisions.
