Costa Mesa, CALIF. (August 22, 2019) – Vans is excited to partner with longtime pro surfer and Costa Mesa native Alex Knost, bringing to life his creative vision of one of the oldest designs in the brand’s archive, the Style 36 Decon SF.
Always pushing the boundaries of creative expression, most recently spotlighted in his latest film Tan Madonna, Alex’s offbeat take on this classic 1977 Vans silhouette is no surprise. Inspired by the colors and materials found in his 5th generation, ‘80s Coupe de Ville Cadillac, this shoe came to life under Alex’s artistic eye; as such, the Style 36 Decon SF has undergone some serious upgrades, including a glossy, vegan patent leather in a bitter chocolate colorway, for an entirely new and original take on this classic silhouette.
The collection also includes the Sk8-Hi 138 Decon SF in the Alex Knost dress blues colorway. Both styles are complete with a timeless natural gum vulcanized sole, and Vans’ UtlraCush insole, upping the ante on comfort.
A part of the Vans family since 2005, Alex is most commonly recognized for his eclectic style, both in and out of the water. From making art and collaborating with fashion labels, to creating music with his band, Tomorrow’s Tulips, and handcrafting his own boards through his personal label, he has a deep influence that extends beyond surfing alone.
Alex’s focus consistently lands on deepening his creative connection to the sport – and is justly reflected in this latest collaboration.
