Kua ʻĀina Sandwich

Some North Shore traditions don’t need a contest jersey. A burger at Kua ʻĀina after a session is one of them.

Kua ʻĀina Sandwich opened in Haleʻiwa in May 1975. The story goes that they sold just 12 meals on day one. Decades later, the line out front on Kamehameha Highway tells you how that turned out.

What to order

  • The burger: Cooked to order, with toppings like avocado, pineapple, bacon, grilled onions and Ortega chilis
  • Mahi mahi sandwich: The longtime local favorite if you’re skipping beef
  • Fries: Shoestring, piled high

It’s casual and counter-service with open-air seating, and everything travels well if you’re heading back to the beach.

Find it: 66-160 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleʻiwa
