Big-wave season is here, and so is the next generation of the vest that changed how big-wave surfers think about safety.
The Patagonia PSI Vest 2.0 is a full redesign of the Personal Surf Inflation Vest, built from more than a decade of R&D and feedback from Patagonia’s big-wave ambassadors. It’s worn under your wetsuit and can be inflated more than once in a session after a bad wipeout or a long hold-down.
What’s new
- New polyurethane bladder built to withstand extreme pressure
- All four CO2 canisters moved to the back for better paddling and board contact
- Thinner and lighter, with less material across the chest
- Expanded size range with a gender-inclusive fit
- Same familiar two-handle pull system
Patagonia is rolling it out at the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational ceremony at Waimea Bay this December. As with the original, you have to complete Big Wave Risk Assessment Group (BWRAG) safety training before you can buy one.
Availability: Early 2027, for BWRAG-certified surfers only
